i plan on pairing this picture up with a picture of magazine ads and maybe a photo of a television commercial and add a quote about how much money is spent every year on advertising. the only thing i dont like about this photo is that it is a real estate ad. i wish it were an advertisement promoting the buying of specific products but i guess this will have to do for now. if i get the chance i will retake the photograph with a different billboard.

1] what is the nature of your photographic study?
In this project, i wanted to demonstrate how commercials and other advertisements we see twenty four seven not only try to sell the product, but they sell an image.

2] what was your initial source of interest in this line of inquiry?
Initially, i wanted to show how people are effected by the advertisements they see.

3] what is the point/purpose?
People spend millions of dollars every year on products that make them look cool and although they they may spend tons of money to be "perfect" like the models in advertisements, they still fell worthless and continue to spend money on the products that will make them "perfect". The purpose of my project is to show how exactly people are effected by the advertisements they see.

4] were there any specific people or circumstances from which you found inspiration or guidance?
i drew alot of inspiration from the music i listen to. in the summer i tend to listen to alot of punk rock, which has a reputation of being a
genre of music that is very outspoken. there is a music video by the band anti-flag called this is the end which had lots of different statistics and at the last statistic in the video is something like "millions of dollars are spent every year to make you feel worthless". This statement is kind of what got me interested in the idea.

5] how did the visiting artist guide your project? how did it change or evolve from beginning to end?
Cathy gave me advice, helped me come up with a few ideas, and reassured me that i had some good ideas and it would work out. My project evolved a bit from my original idea. At first i was planning on just photographing the people, but that evolved into doing a diptic with people using a product and the actual product. I also added facts with i think help make more of a stronger statement.

6] what have you learned? how has your opinion/belief/outlook changed?
i still feel the same about how people are influenced by the media and doing this project i learned

7] what happens next?
I have a few more pictures to finish. I have a pictures with ads in magazines that i just need to put together and add a fact. I also am thinking about stealing my friends little sister and doing one of how ads. specifically target children. The final piece i do for this project, i am thinking of incorporating billboards, or just maybe a fact about advertising in general.

Proposal [Revised]
My proposal idea is still the same, however, i have made a few changes from my original plan. originally i planned on using black and white, as you can see i have shifted a bit more towards digital. this does not mean that i will not included some black and white photographs in the project. i also now plan on pairing up each photograph of some one being effected by media with and image of what effects them and i would also like to add a fact or statistic with each photograph. For example, if i have a picture of someone watching television i might write "the average person spends about two years of their life watching commercials" under it...
